Daly bread at CBS

Eye inks former 'Wings' star to holding deal

Former "Wings" star Tim Daly is flying to CBS.

The Eye web has inked the thesp to a holding deal that also contains a primetime series component. The network will work with Daly to develop a skein or cast him in another project.

Daly is best known for playing serious-minded pilot Joe Hackett in NBC's long-running sitcom "Wings," which lasted from 1990 until 1997 and also starred Steven Weber and Crystal Bernard. The skein, about two brothers with a tiny commuter plane biz, has become a staple of cabler USA Network's daily sked.

Since "Wings" exited the Peacock lineup, Daly has landed several high-profile miniseries roles, most notably as the lead in ABC's big-budget production of Stephen King's "Storm of the Century." He also appeared in four segs of HBO's Emmy-winning mini "From the Earth to the Moon," the 1992 CBS mini "Queen" and the 1986 CBS mini "I'll Take Manhattan."

On the bigscreen, Daly starred in the 1998 Fox feature pic "Object of My Affection," which starred "Friends" regular Jennifer Aniston and pulled in about $30 million domestically. His other film credits include "Denise Calls Up," "Year of the Comet" and "Made in Heaven."

Most recently, Daly had a TV and film production deal with Paramount.

Daly's best-known film role was in Barry Levinson's 1982 MGM classic "Diner."
