UPN orders full season of two sitcoms

'Parkers,' 'Grown Ups' helps netlet gain ratings

UPN has signed off on full-season orders for two frosh laffers: Big Ticket Television's "The Parkers" and Columbia TriStar Television's "Grown Ups."

Both skeins are off to solid Nielsen starts and have helped UPN make solid gains on Mondays this season.

"The Parkers," a spinoff of UPN's "Moesha," regularly ranks third among teens in its 8:30 p.m. slot and is averaging a 1.6/5 with adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. That's 67% above what UPN had averaged in the slot a year ago.

The Jaleel White starrer "Grown Ups" has become the No. 2 show with teens in its 9 p.m. slot, boosting UPN's average with that demo by a whopping 191%. Among adults 18-49, the skein has improved the slot by 67% vs. year-ago averages.

UPN also announced plans Thursday to move up "Shasta McNasty" by a half-hour, to 8 p.m., for the next two Tuesdays, inserting repeats of "Grown Ups" in the 8:30 p.m. slot. "Dilbert" will have its season bow in the Tuesday 8 p.m. slot on Nov. 2.

Meanwhile, CBS announced plans Thursday for a 13-seg reality skein to air next summer. The show will be a survivalist challenge featuring a $1 million prize.
