'SNL' opener wins key demo

'Kilborn' beats 'O'Brien' with adults rating

With Jerry Seinfeld aboard as host, "Saturday Night Live" launched its 25th season by equaling its year-ago adults 18-49 rating and doubling slot rival "Mad TV's" ratings on Fox.

"SNL" averaged a 5.0 rating, 20 share in adults 18-49, while "Mad" earned a 2.5/9. "SNL" slipped with younger viewers, dropping 10% in adults 18-34 to a 4.7/21.

In weekday late-night results, CBS' "Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" hit its highest men 18-34 rating to date (0.9/7) and beat NBC's rival "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" in adults 18-34 for the first time on Oct. 1. "O'Brien" still won the week in that demo with a 1.0/8 (down 23% from the year-ago week), topping "Kilborn's" 0.7/6 (up 40%).

At 11:30 p.m., NBC's "Tonight Show" (2.4/12 in adults 18-49) dominated CBS' "Late Show" (1.5/7).

In weekday afternoon action, Cartoon Network earned cable's best household 4-6 p.m. rating with its "Toonami" animation block (1.8 in households in the Cartoon Network universe). Top numbers came at 5 p.m. with "Dragon Ball Z" (2.6).
