Teen aud to join Fox Family

Net to 'pick up where ABC and CBS left off' with kids' block

Fox Family Channel has acquired award-winning programs from the "ABC Afterschool Specials" and "CBS School Break Specials" series for a new programming block aimed at teens.

The family-friendly cabler landed 15 episodes from the two series of specials and will start rebroadcasting them starting Nov. 12 in a two-hour block from 2-4 p.m. The cabler will also start producing original episodes for the block.

"Kids want to see characters they can relate to in sophisticated stories and have only been exposed to teen angst-type programming since these specials disappeared off the landscape," said Joel Andryc, senior VP, kid's programming and development, at Fox Family Channel. "We thought that by acquiring these it was a great way to pick up where ABC and CBS left off a couple of years ago."

Among the specs to re-air in the block will be "Kids Killing Kids," with Malcolm Jamal Warner, and "Daddy's Girl," featuring singer Lauryn Hill.

Andryc said that Fox Family is negotiating with several TV and film celebs to make cameos or have their production companies produce new versions of the specials.
