Marcom will oversee all of Time's publishing activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, taking over where newly named Time chief financial officer Richard Atkinson left off.
"John is a broadly experienced and accomplished publishing executive and a talented leader, respected and admired by colleagues within the company and outside," said Time editor in chief Norman Pearlstine.
Most recently, Marcom was prexy of Time Inc. Asia, which operates mags Time Asia, Asiaweek and Fortune Asia. The division also controls Asian airlines magazine publishers President Inc. and Emphasis Inc. Marcom will retain his responsibilities for Asia from his new London-based post.
Marcom's past accomplishments during his Time Asia stint include re-launching Japanese gardening mag Bises and helping to build Asian news Web site CNN.com/AsiaNow.
First teaming with Time in 1993 as a development director, Marcom was upped to prexy of Time Asia in 1998. Previously, Marcom worked three years as a writer for Forbes magazine and spent eight years as a Wall Street Journal reporter.
