Hoyts names Johnson CEO

Ivany will continue to advise company

SYDNEY -- In a long expected move, Hoyts worldwide exec director Paul Johnson has been tapped to replace outgoing Peter Ivany as Hoyts CEO, effective immediately.

Rumors regarding Ivany's future with the company have been rife ever since Oz media tycoon Kerry Packer bid for control of Hoyts earlier this year.

The speculation was further fueled when Ivany sold his 11% Hoyts stake to Packer's Consolidated Press Holdings after the publisher and broadcaster gained effective control of the exhib last May. At the time, it was considered unlikely that Ivany would stay as CEO.

After 17 years with the Hoyts group, new CEO Johnson is now responsible for the day-to-day operations of Hoyts Australia, as well as for the group's international cinema investments.

After a 17-year association with the exhib, Ivany apparently plans to remain on the Hoyts board as a director and adviser to the group.
