Stars take shine to Prinz's new banner

Dion, Martin join in

Celine Dion, Ricky Martin and Van Halen have joined veteran music agent Rob Prinz at his week-old Principal Artists Group.

The acts, who are among the hottest touring performers in the industry and routinely rake in millions of dollars in tour grosses, worked with Prinz during his 11 years at Creative Artists Agency.

The industry vet, whose first client was Madonna in the early '80s before she signed with Sire Records, ankled the agency last week in favor of his own banner.

"It's a challenging and exciting time in the industry, with the consolidation in the record business and among concert promoters," Prinz told Daily Variety. "I had been thinking about this move for a couple of years and I just felt, like the old saying, 'in chaos comes opportunity,' so the timing seemed right."

Prinz said he'll "grow the business by focusing on the details. Sometimes when you are part of a big firm, things inadvertently slip by. That won't happen here."

Initially, the firm boasts Prinz and an assistant. He said he'll add agents as the need arises and the business supports. PAG will move into offices in Beverly Hills early next month.

Prinz, who worked with Dion and Martin before they recorded English language albums, also shepherded the careers of Blur, RCA success story Natalie Imbruglia and Motown's Stevie Wonder, among many others.
