New Line inks 'Net links for DVDs

'Nightmare,' 'Corrupter,' 'Blast' get high-tech treatment

New Line Cinema is going interactive with its DVDs, establishing partnership deals with Internet companies Uproar.com, Togglethis, Load Media and the Internet Movie Database and vidgame maker Blizzard Entertainment to provide content for upcoming discs.

The DVDs are for the films "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "The Corrupter" and "Blast from the Past."

As part of the deals, the Platinum Series DVD-ROM editions of the studio's pics will include links to the IMDB, which provides information on a title's cast, director, locations, reviews and more.

They got game

For "Blast from the Past," Uproar.com has created an interactive trivia game, based on the movie, that runs on its Web site through Oct. 30.

The studio will also cross promote "Nightmare" and "Corrupter" through rebates with vidgame maker Blizzard Entertainment, which has produced the Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft titles.

Load Media will broadcast clips from New Line's pics through its Netcasting site, enabling viewers to e-mail them to friends. Once clicked on, the clips link viewers to New Line's online store.

For "Nightmare," interactive Webisode creator Togglethis has created an e-mailable Freddy Krueger series for the DVD series and on the official "Nightmare" Web site. The company also created animated series for "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and "Lost in Space."

"These alliances enhance and extend our marketing of DVD to reach new audiences, including the increasing number of computer users with DVD-ROM drives," said New Line Home Video senior veep of marketing Sarah Olson-Graves.
