NBC Sports revs up for NASCAR spec

Gordon to produce special

NBC Sports has signed a deal with top NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon to produce and host the web's first one-hour NASCAR special, "NASCAR Behind the Scenes."

The special will be telecast Nov. 13 following NBC's coverage of the Busch Grand National Miami 300.

Gordon will host the special with NBC/MSNBC anchor Brian Williams, and former Washington Redskins coach and current NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs.

On Nov. 14, NBC will telecast its first Winston Cup race, the Pennzoil 400.

Because NASCAR racing is new to NBC, spec is designed to educate newcomers about the sport while giving viewers already familiar with NASCAR information they haven't seen before.

"NASCAR Behind the Scenes" is a co-production of Wide Open Entertainment, Gordon's production company, and Millsport, a Stamford, Conn.-based sports marketing company.

The deal was brokered for Gordon by William Morris Agency. Raul Mateu handled the deal for WMA.
