Arquette, Robbins tag for WB's wrestling pic

WCW grapplers to populate film

NEW YORK -- David Arquette has jumped into the ring with Warner Bros.

The "Scream" vet has inked to star in an untitled pro wrestling film to be directed by Brian Robbins ("Varsity Blues") from a script by Steven Brill ("The Mighty Ducks"). Pic is skedded for an October shoot.

Arquette will play one of two wrestling-loving losers who are devastated when their favorite matman is humiliated in the process of losing his championship belt. The hapless pair travel to WCW headquarters in Atlanta and infiltrate the operation to help the grappler regain the championship.

The film's being produced by Bobby Newmyer and Jeffrey Silver of Outlaw Prods., with WCW president Eric Bischoff serving as executive producer. WB exec Basil Iwanyk is steering the project.

Pic will use the full resources of the Time Warner-owned grappling circuit WCW. The plan is to draft WCW wrestlers to populate the film, and tap a top grappler to play the titleholder who suffers the fall from grace.

After completing his third "Scream" pic for Dimension, Arquette will do the movie as his next project. He will follow it up with "Honky," a New Regency film that has been pushed back.

Arquette is repped by ICM's Nick Styne and Risa Shapiro, and managed by Steven Siebert of Lighthouse Entertainment.
