NEW YORK -- Jim McKay has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with ABC Sports, the Alphabet arm's prexy Howard Katz announced on Thursday.

McKay will continue to host ABC's coverage of horse racing and the British Open.

He will also be involved with other sports and will have a recurring role on "ABC's Wide World of Sports."

"He has personified ABC Sports' tradition of excellence since the early 1960s and continued to be one of the most eloquent journalists on television," said Katz.

McKay, a winner of 12 Emmy Awards, has covered more than 100 different sports in 40 different countries in his 38 years at ABC.

The broadcaster is well known for ABC's Olympic broadcasts, of which he has covered 10 for ABC.

Terms of McKay's new contract were not disclosed.
