WB scores Hat Trick pact

U.K. TV prod'n co. inks 2-year development deal

LONDON -- Hat Trick Prods. has struck a two-year deal with Warner Bros. to develop and produce comedy and entertainment shows for the U.S. market.

The deal, which includes a $3 million signing-on fee, gives Hat Trick, one of the U.K.'s leading indie producers, complete creative control over the U.S. versions of its programs.

Over the past year, Warners and Hat Trick worked together on ABC's improv show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" hosted by Drew Carey. Warners and Hat Trick will collaborate on a second 22-episode season of the show.

They are also pushing ahead with a pilot U.S. version of Hat Trick's hit BBC satirical quiz show "Have I Got News For You," to be hosted by Norm Macdonald.

Hat Trick will open a Los Angeles office headed by an American exec with a network comedy background.
