'Noon' comes again

TBS to remake Western pic

Cabler TBS is developing a remake of the classic Western "High Noon" to air sometime next year.

The telepic will be produced by David and Norman Rosemont of Rosemont Prods. Helmer and cast are still undetermined.

The original 1952 pic starred Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly in the story of a sheriff who must break a vow to his bride in order to face a killer seeking revenge against him. Besides Cooper's Oscar-winning performance, "High Noon" was acclaimed for its use of real time to build tension.

TBS' remake is not the first time an original film based on the Oscar-winning oater has appeared on TV. CBS ponied up a sequel "The Return of Will Kane" in 1980, starring Lee Majors in the lead role originated by Cooper.

"High Noon" is part of a growing lineup of original films for the Atlanta-based cabler, which aired its first, "Fatal Error," in March. Also in development for the year 2000 are thrillers "Sweepers" and "Nowhere to Land" and "Phillip Margolin's After Dark," a courtroom drama based on the best-selling novel.
