Fox Family greenlights 'Cliffhangers' skein

Braverman creates show about at-risk teens in the mountains

PASADENA -- The Fox Family Channel has greenlit production on a one-hour drama produced by Michael Braverman ("Life Goes On," "Chicago Hope") called "Cliffhangers."

Shot in the mountains in Washington state, the original series tells the stories of students who attend a school for at-risk teenagers.

Joe Lando will star and co-exec produce along with Braverman, Doug Schwartz ("Baywatch") and the show's creator, Michael Hastings.

The cable web has ordered 22 episodes of the show, to be produced by Lions Gate Television in partnership with Paramount Intl.

Based on true stories of troubled youths, "Cliffhangers" will deal with subjects such as drug abuse, teen suicide and sexual abuse.

"These are the issues that usually don't get on primetime TV," said Braverman, who will begin production on the series today in Vancouver. "This is an intensive, issue-oriented teen and adult drama."

The series will premiere next season.

In addition, Fox Family has hired comedian David Alan Grier to star in "Random Acts of Comedy," a gameshow featuring improvisational sketch comedy. Series will premiere in November.
