Academy governors long on experience

Peck, Frankenheimer among 13 re-elects

Nine incumbent members of the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences have been returned by their branches for additional three-year terms.

Four people who had previously served on the Academy's board also are back in the fold.

It is the second year in a row -- and the second time in the history of the Academy -- that everyone elected as a governor has served before.

Incumbent governors returning to the board are Gregory Peck, representing the actors' branch; Albert Wolsky, art directors; John Bailey, cinematographers; John Frankenheimer, directors; Lew Wasserman, executives; Marvin Levy, public relations; June Foray, short films and feature animation; Don Hall, sound; and Bill Taylor, visual effects.

Back on the board after one-year absences are Carol Littleton, representing film editors; Charles Bernstein, music; and Fay Kanin, writers. Returned by the producers' branch after a six-year absence was Samuel Goldwyn Jr.

Three governors represent each of the Academy's 13 branches and are elected for staggered terms, so that each branch elects or re-elects one governor every year.

Governors whose positions were not up for re-election and who continue on the board are Kathy Bates and Karl Malden, actors' branch; Marvin March and Charles Rosen, art directors; Conrad L. Hall and Haskell Wexler, cinematographers; Paul Mazursky and Robert E. Wise, directors; Roger L. Mayer and Robert Rehme, executives; Donn Cambern and Tom Rolf, film editors; Alan Bergman and Arthur Hamilton, music; Saul Zaentz and Richard D. Zanuck, producers; Sid Ganis and Buffy Shutt, public relations; Carl Bell and William Littlejohn, short films and feature animation; Douglas Greenfield and Donald Rogers, sound; Hal Kanter and Frank Pierson, writers; and Richard Edlund and Jonathan Erland, visual effects.
