Sony Music names Ehrlich tech prexy
Exec to define, develop global strategies
In the newly created position, Ehrlich will continue to define and develop global strategies for new and emerging technologies, as well as overseeing Sony Music Entertainment's involvement in marketing, e-commerce and music distribution.
Based in New York, he will report to Mel Ilberman, chairman of Sony Music Intl.
"Fred's grasp and understanding of new and emerging technologies have made him a key asset for Sony Music, and one of our industry's most respected and admired executives," said Thomas D. Mottola, chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment.
Ehrlich has served as senior veep/general manager of new technology and business development since 1994, when he founded the department.
He has overseen the launch of Sony Music Online, which attracts more than one million visitors a week; worked closely with Columbia House and Sony Music labels to create their online efforts; and spearheaded Sony Music's investments in music-based new-media companies, including OnRadio, Spinner.com, Launch Media and Digital On-Demand.

Prior to joining Sony Music Entertainment, Ehrlich served as VP/general manager at Columbia Records.
