Kinowelt finds Beacon

'Thirteen,' 'Seven,' 'Cheer,' Trippin' rights acquired

MUNICH -- Expanding its network of U.S. partners, Munich-based entertainment house Kinowelt has acquired rights to four titles produced by Beacon Pictures.

Kinowelt has taken all rights for Germany, Eastern Europe, Switzerland and Vietnam for the Kevin Costner starrer "Thirteen Days," the Arnold Schwarzenegger pic "Seven Men Out," "Cheer Fever" and "Trippin'," which it acquired through Good Machine.

Kinowelt is also in negotiations with William Morris to co-produce eight pics that William Morris is doing with United. Kinowelt worked with William Morris recently on the James Merendino-directed "Magicians," starring Til Schweiger.

Credit for acquisition

Earlier this week, Kinowelt, which has an output deal with New Line, and long-term relationships with Miramax, Alliance and Good Machine, secured a credit line from a bank consortium led by the Hypovereins bank for $79 million, of which two-thirds will be invested in rights.

The company, whose core businesses are licensing, distribution, exhibition and video, acquires around 60 titles a year.
