Clinton reups FCC's Ness

Second five-year term awaits expected Senate approval

WASHINGTON -- President Clinton announced Thursday that he intends to nominate FCC commissioner Susan Ness for a second five-year term.

Ness was widely expected to get the nod for the second term, and a speedy confirmation is anticipated from the Senate.

"I am deeply honored to have been selected by President Clinton to serve another term at the Federal Communications Commission. I look forward to working with the leadership and members of the Senate in the confirmation process," Ness said.

Ness is one of three Democrats serving on the five-member FCC and is an important ally of FCC chairman William Kennard.

"I am delighted that President Clinton has announced his intention to nominate Susan Ness to another term at the FCC," Kennard said. "She has been a terrific colleague and an invaluable asset to me."
