'Summer' hits the city
Disco rules at preem of Lee's new pic
NEW YORK -- The night was appropriately sweltering for Monday's premiere of "Summer of Sam," Spike Lee's re-creation of New York's summer of 1977, a season in which the city endured a record heat wave along with a rash of serial killings at the hand of David Berkowitz, aka Son of Sam.
Touchstone packed the house at Sony's Astor Plaza for the screening, and threw an after-party at Roseland that by the end of the night had everyone out on the dance floor shaking their groove-things to the circa '77 disco blaring over the sound system.
In addition to Lee, on hand from the film were producer Jeri Carroll-Colicchio and screenwriter Victor Colicchio, along with stars Adrien Brody, Mira Sorvino, Jennifer Esposito and Ben Gazzara. Other guests included Ed Bradley, Jennifer Lopez, John Singleton, Barry Diller and pal Diane von Furstenberg, Wesley Snipes, Vanessa Williams and Rosie Perez.
