Televisa to air millennial spex

Mexican co. seeking sponsors for special programs

MEXICO CITY -- Televisa unveiled Tuesday a slate of special programs and live events celebrating the close of the 20th century.

Special-events producer Miguel Angel Herros told Daily Variety that Televisa is seeking sponsors and offering special advertising packages to help defray the cost of production.

Executives at the company declined to specify the exact programming investment, but sources say it is substantial.

End of century specs

Televisa is producing weekly hourlong specials along five themes, such as technological developments, over several months as well as a series of one-minute capsules on six different subjects, from ecology to sports, that will air in between regularly scheduled programs.

It will also produce a number of special live events, such as a concert by Mexican crooner Juan Gabriel in the capital's Azteca stadium, which is owned by Televisa.
