Exec becomes sr. veep, worldwide publicity

Columbia TriStar Home Video has upped long-serving exec Fritz Friedman to senior VP, worldwide publicity.

Friedman will continue to report to Benjamin Feingold, president of the Sony Pictures division.

Friedman will oversee all CTHV product publicity for both homevid and digital videodisc release. He also heads corporate communications for the division and organizes its special events.

In addition, Friedman will supervise publicity for CTHV's third-party acquisitions for theatrical, homevid and DVD release. These have included "Jawbreaker," "The Last Supper" and "Savior," among other titles, and Friedman has worked on several theatrical reissue campaigns, including "Das Boot" and "The Big Chill."

'Solid reputation'

"During Fritz's tenure at CTHV, he has built a solid reputation as an energetic, thoughtful and innovative executive," Feingold said.

Friedman joined Sony in 1980, working in New York at the then-Columbia Pictures Home Entertainment marketing group. He later transferred to Burbank as part of the RCA/Columbia Pictures Home Video joint venture. He became director of publicity in 1986, VP in 1990 and VP of worldwide publicity in 1992.

He has been instrumental in the homevid campaigns for "Tootsie," "Ghostbusters," "Air Force One," "Men in Black" and "The Mask of Zorro," among many other titles.
