$10 mil puts Lawrence on 'Spot' for Warners
Gordon making helming debut
Lawrence will play a postal worker who takes in a stray dog that turns out to be a refugee from the witness protection program. The postman has the smarts and skills to turn it into a superpooch.
The film will be directed by Dennie Gordon, who's making her feature directorial debut after helming episodes of series such as "Ally McBeal," "The Practice" and "Picket Fences."
Producer Robert Simonds has brought in George Gallo to punch up the script by Alec Berg, Jeff Schaeffer and Dave Mandel and get it ready for the early 2000 start. Simonds will produce with Lawrence's manager, Michael Green. Andrew Deane will be executive producer. WB exec Jeff Robinov and prexy Lorenzo Di Bonaventura are overseeing the project.
Lawrence's feature stock has never been higher. He's coming off the Imagine hit "Life" with Eddie Murphy, and the film he just completed, "Blue Streak," is gaining buzz for its high test screening scores at Columbia. He's repped by UTA.
