'Buffy' finale set for July

Netlet apologizes to fans but backs move

NEW YORK -- The WB netlet has reskedded the season finale of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" for July 13, while CBS has locked in move dates for two of its sitcom anchors.

"Buffy" seg was set to air May 25 but WB execs pulled it at the last minute due to sensitivity over scenes depicting violence surrounding a graduation ceremony. Frog net officials worried the episode (conclusion of a two-part arc) would be in poor taste airing so soon after the Littleton, Colo., high school shootings and so close to graduation ceremonies for many high schools nationwide.

In making the resked announcement, WB CEO Jamie Kellner issued a statement apologizing to fans upset by the delay, saying, "If we erred, it was on the side of caution."

The netlet plans to air both parts of the "Graduation Day" episode as a two-hour movie in September, just before the season premiere of "Buffy."

Separately, CBS continues to reshape its sked in anticipation of the fall, shifting "King of Queens" into its new 8 p.m. Monday timeslot on July 12 and moving "Cosby" from Mondays to Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on July 14.

Various sitcom repeats will air at 8:30 p.m. both nights during the summer prior to the premiere of CBS' new fall laffers.
