GlassNote Records prexy and former Universal Records chief Daniel Glass is in negotiations with former Mercury Records Group CEO Danny Goldberg to join Goldberg's newly minted Sheridan Square Entertainment.
The deal, if it closes, would link two of the industry's widely respected execs in a multifaceted deal that would include a record label and new media interests for the Gotham-based outfit.
Glass helped put Universal on the map in its first two years of operation, producing hit discs by Sister Hazel and Billie Myers, among others, and pacting with Mojo Records, which spawned Cherry Poppin' Daddies. A Glass-led deal with Kedar Entertainment delivered Grammy winner Erykah Badu, among others.
At GlassNote he struck paydirt with Eden and Nasty Boy Klick.
Longtime friends, Goldberg and Glass worked closely together last year when they tried to orchestrate a comeback for singer Paula Abdul, who was signed to Mercury.
Glass linked the diminutive diva with top producers and scribes in an effort to put together a new album.
But Universal's acquisition of Polygram resulted in the downsizing of Mercury, and the project was put on hold. Goldberg later ankled the label.
Under Goldberg, Mercury hit the charts with Joan Osborne and paved the way for the teen act explosion with Hanson. He also shepherded the collaboration between Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach.
None of the parties involved would comment.
