Galaxy taps Mexico head

Publishing exec Sardaneta exits Reader's Digest

MEXICO CITY -- Galaxy Latin America has hired publishing exec Arturo Sardaneta to head its Mexico platform, the latest move in the satcaster's restructuring here.

Sardaneta, who is departing the top post at Reader's Digest Mexico, will start July 1 as the new CEO at Grupo Galaxy Mexicana.

Last October, Galaxy investor MVS Multivision of Mexico announced its pullout from the panregional biz and the reduction of its holding in the Mexican platform, selling shares to partner Hughes Electronics.

The ownership breakdown of Galaxy Mexicana has not been disclosed, but privately held MVS still has a majority stake. However, Galaxy Latam was given greater management control over Mexico, where the DirecTV DTH service has lagged well behind rival Sky in subs.

Late last year, former regional programming exec Alberto Ennis returned to Mexico as president of Galaxy Mexicana. Ennis was a longtime employee of MVS before moving to Galaxy Latam operations in Miami in mid-1995.
