Star, Nat'l Geo pact in India

Deal adds channel to station's stable

NEW DELHI -- National Geo has pacted with Rupert Murdoch's Star TV for advertising sales and distribution in India.

Under the deal, Star will rep National Geographic in India. Star will be adding National Geographic to the bouquet of channels it distributes to Indian cable operators. Launched in July 1998, the channel claims to reach 7.5 million homes in India.

Meanwhile, Achal Mehra, head of National Geographic Channel in India, has resigned to join Sony's ANX movie channel.
