Scribe duo gets 'Airtime'

Ziehl to direct for Miramax

Miramax Films has tapped scribes Stephen Susco and John Weidner to write the actioner "Airtime" for Scott Ziehl ("Broken Vessels") to direct.

Pic, which Richard Gladstein is producing through his Miramax-based FilmColony banner, is about a taxi driver who becomes entangled with the Los Angeles Police Dept. in a world of high-speed car chases.

Ziehl, who came up with the concept, will oversee development of the screenplay. Lawrence Bender, whose A Band Apart Prods. also has a deal with Miramax, is exec producing.

Ziehl came to attention with his debut effort, "Vessels," a drama set in the drug underworld. Unapix Films and Zeitgeist Films distribbed "Vessels" in the U.S.

Susco and Weidner wrote "Bone in the Throat" for New Line. They are currently writing the comedy "Dumbstruck" for Universal, with John Leguizamo attached to star and produce and Mike Nichols directing.

They are also developing the thriller "Johnny Nitrate," which Weidner hopes to direct. They are repped by APA's David Saunders and attorney Alan Hergott. Miramax could not be reached for comment.
