NEW YORK -- Last year's Cottesloe Theater production of Michael Frayn's "Copenhagen" is Broadway bound next year, courtesy of producers James Nederlander Sr., Elizabeth Ireland McCann and Roger Berlind.

Longtime Frayn director Michael Blakemore ("Noises Off," "Benefactors") will helm.

"Copenhagen," follows German physicist Werner Heisenberg's travels from Berlin to Nazi-controlled Copenhagen in 1941 to visit his colleague Niels Bohr. The two later have a falling out, though it's unclear whether it's over Heisenberg's alleged complicity with the Nazi quest for atomic technology or his effort to warn Bohr of German progress in that effort.

Which house the legiter will head to has not yet been determined, but with a Spring 2000 bow and the dean of the Nederlander theater chain set as a producer, there's plenty of time and little chance it won't get a berth.

McCann will handle general manager chores, with casting expected to begin in late fall.

A source familiar with the production said it's unclear if the London cast could be transplanted, since bringing over David Burke (Bohr) or Matthew Marsh (Heisnberg) would require Equity approval.
