From 'Soup' to Alphabet

Host Henson leaves E

E Entertainment TV's "Talk Soup" is losing John Henson, its host for the last 4 1/2 years, to ABC.

After weeks of speculation that Henson was ready to ankle "Talk Soup," E senior VP of original programming John Rieber made the announcement, saying the network hasn't set a specific date for Henson's departure because the replacement host must still be determined.

An ABC spokesman said Henson is in talks to develop "comedic reality" series and specials for the network.

Henson took over as host of "Talk Soup," one of E's bellwether nightly series, in January 1995, succeeding Greg Kinnear, who left to pursue roles in films. The show compiles clips from talkshows aired throughout the day and night in syndication and on the broadcast networks, buttressed by Henson's tongue-in-cheek commentary.
