Fairy feature
The pic -- based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale -- will be co-exec produced by David Thompson, head of BBC Films, and Eclectic's Mita Vohra; and produced by Nick O'Hagan and Rupert Harvey, as well as John Buchanan for Eclectic.
O'Hagan's credits include "Wilde," "Fever Pitch" and "Howards End." Harvey's most recent project was "Plunkett & Maclean," and Buchanan worked on "To Walk With Lions" and "Call of the Wild."
Brit TV and ad director Richard Sharples -- who co-wrote the screenplay with Francesca Brill and Simon Davison -- will helm. The project marks Sharples' feature debut.
Development coin
BBC Films is providing development financing, the cast is to be announced soon, and lensing will begin in Montreal in November.
"Our success at Cannes this year with 'Wonderland,' 'Ratcatcher' and 'East Is East' has proved once again the continuing strength of BBC Films, which will be further bolstered by this new alliance with BBC Worldwide," Thompson said.
