'Stupid' spec to warners

'Dumb' meets 'Grumpy Old Men'

Warner Bros. has picked up Jeffrey Steinberg's comedy spec "Old and Stupid" for Lauren Shuler-Donner to produce.

Pic, which puts a "Dumb and Dumber"-like spin on "Grumpy Old Men," follows an almost-fossilized U.S. senator whose political enemies attempt to get rid of him by getting an idealistic but half-witted and incredibly clumsy young man to work for him.The foes hope the combination of the intern's bumbling and the senator's advanced age will result in some sort of lethal accident.

Donner and Julie Durk will produce the pic under Warner-based Donner/Shuler-Donner.

WB exec VP Kevin McCormick is overseeing the project for the studio.

Steinberg, who previously penned the ABC telepic "Since You've Been Gone" (aka, "Stepping in the Dogwater"), is repped by CAA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
