Set in the 1930s on the desert set of a Biblical epic, "Epic Proportions" presents a worm's eye view of a Hollywood movie, centering on a love triangle between two extras and a director. Crane, best known as the co-creator of "Friends" and "Veronica's Closet" and is also the exec producer of "Jesse," co-wrote the legiter with Coen over three years ago.
"Epic" will be produced by Brent Peek, Mark Schwartz, Bob Cuillo, Bob Barandes and Matthew Farrell and is aiming for a 600 seat house, according to Peek. The producers hope the show will bow in mid September.
Deals are imminent for thesp Kristin Chenoweth, Tony nommed for "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," to topline.
Jerry Zaks is set to ink a deal to helm the legiter. Peek said he'd wanted to do "Epic" sooner but has been waiting two years for Zaks' busy schedule to permit his attachment.
Zaks is repped by Bill Craver at Writers & Artists Agency in Gotham.
Crane is repped by Nancy Josephson at ICM in Los Angeles. Chenoweth is repped by Bauman, Hiller & Associates in Gotham.
