GC ups vet to sr. vice prexy

DeLemos to be responsible for film buying

Alan deLemos, a 26-year veteran of General Cinemas Theaters, has been promoted to senior VP of film for the 1,100-screen Chestnut Hill, Massachussets-based circuit.

As head of the company's 20-member film department, deLemos will have responsibility for all film-buying operations and GC's national relationships with distributors. He will continue to report to GC president and CEO Bill Doeren.

"During my time in the motion picture exhibition industry, I have never worked with anyone more respected by the film studios and his peers than Alan," said Doeren.

DeLemos was previously VP of film, a title he shared until the beginning of this year with Ben Barbosa.

Barbosa, who oversaw booking in the Western U.S., left the company in January to become head film buyer for the Mann Theaters circuit. At that time, deLemos was given responsibility for booking GC's entire U.S. circuit, which includes 150 theaters in 23 states.

DeLemos first joined GC in 1973 as an accountant before working his way up the ranks.
