Food net to Brown new fare

9 new shows, including 'Good Eats,' to launch in July

NEW YORK -- Food Network announced it will launch nine series in July, including "Good Eats," a show starring filmmaker Alton Brown.

The 40 million-subscriber cabler will launch its schedule at 8 p.m. (ET) July 5 with a special 90-minute version of Food Network's "Emeril Live," starring Emeril Lagasse.

The series are part of 1,000 episodes of new programming, web prexy Eric Ober said at Food Network's upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday.

In "Good Eats," which will premiere July 7, Brown will combine a look at food with the humor of "Saturday Night Live," the net said.

Other new shows include "Extreme Cuisine," "Food 911," "Ultimate Kitchens," "Taste Test," "Cooking Live Primetime" and "Iron Chef."

Upcoming Food Network specials include "BBQ Nation" and "Kids Kitchen," both featuring Al Roker from NBC's "Today Show."

In addition, the cabler signed a new five-year deal with Lagasse, Food TV's biggest star.
