Deal with Toei secures 1,400 half-hour episodes over three years, including hot series "Sailormoon" and "Dragon Ball Z."
The to-be-named net will be launched later this year as a sister web to Gran Canal Latino, a Latin film channel that K-L rolled out last November in partnership with Spanish distrib Enrique Cerezo.
The animation channel will be supplemented with other fare, perhaps including properties from Harvey Entertainment (Casper, Richie Rich, etc.) in which K-L bought a stake on Monday.
Net will, however, enter a region already brimming with kiddie nets, including Nickelodeon, Turner's Cartoon Network, Fox Kids and Discovery Kids, plus kiddie blocks on the Warner Channel and Hearst/Cisneros' Locomotion.
Through its Chile-based subsid Phoenix World Investments, K-L has been distributing theatrical, TV and video product in Latin America for three years.
