Fox believes in tyros' 'God'

Comedy con man spec nabs low six figures

Fox 2000 has paid a low six figure sum for 22-year-old Yonatan Berkovits' comedy spec "Good God" for David Friendly to produce.

The New Jersey-based tyro's script follows a con man from Harlem who scams his way into heaven and ends up impersonating God.

Foreshadowing the future of spec sales, managers Chris Bender and J.C. Spink developed the screenplay with Berkovits and handled its sale (with the assist of attorneys Rick Genow and Doug Stone) without ever meeting the scribe. Berkovits submitted "Good God" to Bender and Spink via e-mail after the industrious duo posted a call for new writers on an Internet Web site.

The trio spent a couple months developing the script over the phone and through electronic mail, before submitting it to studios this week.

Friendly Prods.' David Higgins brought the spec into the company and will likely receive a producing credit if the film gets made.

Fox 2000's Tracy Silbert and Alex Gartner will oversee "Good God" for the Fox division.
