ABC tops Overseas Press kudos

Journos grab nods for business, human rights

NEW YORK -- ABC scored a double victory Thursday at the 60th annual Overseas Press Club Awards, snagging honors for business and human rights reporting.

Alphabet web investigative reporters Brian Ross and Brenda Breslauer won kudos in the category for TV or radio business reporting from abroad for their coverage of stolen Nazi art.

A story called "Russian Girls for Sale" by Cynthia McFadden and Beth Osisek of ABC's now-defunct "PrimeTime Live" was honored as the best example of reporting on human rights by a broadcast org.

All-news cabler CNN was honored for best TV spot news reporting for its coverage of U.S. air strikes against Iraq and President Clinton's impeachment hearings. Boston pubcaster WGBH snagged the award for best foreign affairs docu for the "Frontline" presentation "Ambush in Mogadishu."

Major print publications taking home awards Thursday night included Time, Business Week and The Washington Post. Newsweek editor Maynard Parker posthumously won the org's top honor, the President's Award.

The Overseas Press Club Awards honor outstanding foreign reporting by print and broadcast orgs and individuals. Kudos were presented by "NBC Nightly News" anchor Tom Brokaw at a black-tie dinner held Thursday night at Gotham's Grand Hyatt Hotel.
