Leigh, Renfro may be 'Skipped'

Helmer Davis rediscovers indies in Sandlin's novel adaption

Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brad Renfro are close to a deal to star in Trimark Pictures' "Skipped Parts," directed by Tamara Davis.

Drew Barrymore, who starred in Davis' debut pic, "Guncrazy," has agreed to a cameo appearance in the film, which Tim Sandlin will adapt from his own novel.

Shelby Stone, Alison Dickey and Sharon Oreck are producing the sexual coming of age story, which is set in the mid-1960s. It focuses on a 14-year-old boy and his irresponsible mother who relocate to a small Wyoming town to escape the orbit of the woman's domineering father.

"We at Trimark are thrilled to be a part of Tamra Davis' return to indie filmmaking," said Trimark senior VP of production Robin Schorr, who will oversee the project.

Since her 1992 indie bow, Davis helmed several studio pics including "Billy Madison," "CB4" and "Half Baked."

"Skipped Parts" is the second project Schorr has acquired for Trimark in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, the company announced it would produce the George Romero-helmed horror pic "Carnivore," based on a script by "The Matrix" writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski.

Leigh's credits include "Single White Female," "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and "eXistenZ," which opens in limited release today. Renfro's roles include "Apt Pupil" and "Sleepers."

Davis, Sandlin, Leigh and Renfro were all repped in the deal by UTA. Barrymore was repped by CAA.
