Miami-based Hunter will leave his post at the end of the month and will not likely be replaced, Daily Variety has learned.
An MTV Networks spokeswomen said Hunter, who has been involved with MTV Latino since its founding in 1993, was eager to pursue new challenges -- which may include another position within the MTV family.
She added that Hunter had worked to establish separate teams at MTV Latino, under G.M. Antoinette Zel, and Nick Latino, under G.M. Steve Grieder, effectively making his own position less essential.
Zel and Grieder will now report to MTV Intl. prez Bill Roedy and Nick Intl. managing director Karen Flischel, respectively.
Hunter leaves 9-million-subscriber MTV Latino as one of the best known and most popular nets in Latin America, while 7.7-million-sub Nick, launched in late 1996, ranks second in the hotly contested kiddie stakes to Turner's much older Cartoon Network.
One of Hunter's last tasks has been to oversee MTV Latino's biggest "Unplugged" event to date, featuring Mexican rock en espanol maestros Mana. It is skedded to air in June and spawn the first Latino album release in a DVD format.
