Pic to based on the making of 'Nosferatu' classic

AMSTERDAM -- Shooting will begin April 18 in Luxembourg on "Burned to Light," a fictionalized account of the making of F.W. Murnau's horror classic "Nosferatu," starring John Malkovitch and Willem Dafoe.

Film is helmed by Elias Merhige, with Malkovich playing Murnau, a director who is so obsessed with his pursuit of realism that he hires a real vampire to play the title role in the 1920s classic. Dafoe plays the bloodsucker.

Previously under development as "Shadow of the Vampire," the film is being co-produced by Nicolas Cage and Jeff Levine's Saturn Films and Luxembourg's Delux Prods. with financial backing from Paul Brooks and the BBC.

Pic is set to out at year's end with international sales by Lions Gate.
