'SNL's' Kattan to pick 'Bone'
Comedian to join Goldberg, Fraser in Fox flick
Kattan also recently inked a development deal with FAS' sister division, 20th Century Fox, to star in an as-yet-untitled comedy for the label.
But first up for Kattan will be "Monkey Bone," in which Fraser stars as a neurotic cartoonist, who, after a car crash leaves him in a coma, finds himself stuck in the purgatory-like Dark Town, with Death (Goldberg) hot on his trail. Only his alter ego, the obnoxious Monkey Bone, can help him return to the world of the living.
Kattan will play O.D. Stu, an organ transplant donor who is drawn into the mutated world of Dark Town.
FAS is talking to Bridget Fonda to co-star in the film, but no deal has been reached.
Henry Selick is helming the Sam Hamm-scripted pic, which will employ a combination of live action and stop-motion animation. Chris Columbus' 1492 Pictures is producing "Monkey Bone," which is expected to go before the cameras in May.
FAS topper Chris Meledandri is overseeing the film for the studio.
Extending his relationship with Fox, Kattan has inked a deal with Tom Rothman's 20th division to star in an untitled comedy based on a pitch Kattan developed with director-producer Amy Heckerling.
Jim Leonard, Jr. ("The Diviners") will pen the screenplay; Heckerling, David Zucker and Gil Netter will produce.
Kattan, who is repped by Endeavor, is the latest SNL cast member to make the leap to features. After a small role in the 1993 pic "...And God Spoke," Kattan co-starred in the Heckerling-produced "A Night at the Roxbury." He recently wrapped Warner Bros.' "The House on Haunted Hill," and he is now back shooting the final shows of SNL's current season.
