Thomas Jane, soon to be seen swimming in "The Deep Blue Sea" for director Renny Harlin, has inked to star with Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman in the indie pic "Under Suspicion."

The film, being directed by Stephen Hopkins from a script by Peter Iliff, is a remake of the French film "Gare de Vue," about a police investigator (Freeman) who tries to coax a confession out of a prominent lawyer (Hackman), who is a suspect in a double homicide. Jane will play a detective who works with Freeman.

The indie pic is being financed by France's TF1 and produced by Freeman's Revelations Entertainment partner Lori McCreary, Anne Marie Gillen and Stephen Hopkins. Freeman, Hackman and Ross Bell are exec producing.

It begins shooting on location in Puerto Rico in May. Jane is repped by ICM's Colton Gramm and Ed Limato.

Oliver Hudson has joined MGM's "Mary Jane's Last Dance." Hudson currently co-stars with his mother, Goldie Hawn, in "The Out-of-Towners."

The new pic is based on Victoria Strouse's spec script. Zoe Clarke-Williams ("Men") is directing. Frank Mancuso Jr. is producing. Hudson joins a cast that includes Meredith Monroe, Mia Kirshner and Dominique Swain.

The film tells the story of a popular, drug-addicted coed who befriends a wallflower, who soon takes on many of the lifestyle characteristics and behaviors of the other. It's set to go before the cameras in North Carolina later this month.

Hudson is represented by Todd Eisner and Jason Guttman of Writers & Artists Agency and David Seltzer of Industry Entertainment.

Matt Ross joins Christina Applegate and Jean Reno in "The Visitors" once he wraps "Wonder Boys" for director Curtis Hanson. He just completed the Mary Harron-directed "American Psycho" the Paramount Classics film "Company Man" and Fox 2000's "Pushing Tin." He's repped by Gersh Agency's Lindsay Porter and managed by Peg Donegan at Mindell/Donegan.

Blair Underwood has joined the cast of William Friedkin's "Rules of Engagement." The thriller, which stars Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson, is shooting in Morocco. Paramount Pictures is financing and distributing the pic. Seven Arts Intl. holds foreign rights.

James Webb and Steven Gaghan wrote the script. Richard Zanuck and Scott Rudin are producers.

Underwood will play a Marine captain who gives an order resulting in the deaths of innocent bystanders, and who is subsequently court-marshaled.

He is managed by Helen Sugland of Landmark Artists Management.

Dylan Walsh, last seen as police officer Jimmy Doyle in Steven Bochco's "Brooklyn South," will next star in the one-hour drama series "68" for Paramount Television/ABC. He will play an FBI agent who partners with a younger agent played by Jason London.

The pilot, executive produced by John Mankiewicz, Aaron Lipstadt and Dan Pyne, has begun filming in Los Angeles.

Pyne will helm the project, with a script he penned with Mankiewicz. Walsh is repped by UTA and Bob McGowan of McGowan Management.

Colm Feore ("Stephen King's Storm of the Century") has been cast opposite Mia Farrow and Martin Sheen in the CBS telepic "Forget Me Never" from Citadel Entertainment.

The made-for is based on Diana Friel McGowin's autobiography "Living in the Labyrinth" about the ravages of Alzheimer's disease. Feore plays a former university professor suffering from the disease who befriends a woman (Farrow) diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. Sheen plays Farrow's husband.

Currently shooting in Toronto, the vidpic is being produced in association with Storyline Entertainment. Robert Allan Ackerman is directing.
