Fleming to helm UA teen pic

No cast yet for rocker geek-themed comedy

Eric Fleming has been signed to direct United Artists' tentatively titled "Wide Awake." The pic is based on the spec script whose title had been "Goat Cheese."

No casting has been set on the comedy about two high school geeks who form a rock band as a way to meet girls. The pic was written by Daniel Shere. It's being produced by Scott Immergut.

"This is one of the best teenage comedy scripts I've ever read," said James Middleton, the UA exec overseeing the project. "It deals in a hilarious way with the universal teenage fantasy of becoming a rock star."

Fleming is best known for getting his Hollywood break by making the $1,000 short "Fallen Arches." The documentary-style pic focused on a Ronald McDonald-type clown who loses his job, then auditions for acting jobs in films like "Pulp Fiction" and "Silence of the Lambs."

This is the first feature film for both Fleming and Shere.
