Warner Music taps Johnson

Legal eagle steps in as exec VP, general counsel

Warner Music Group has tapped David H. Johnson exec veep and general counsel. The nod fills the void created by Fred Wistow's retirement.

Johnson is widely considered a legal eagle very well versed in all areas of the music industry. His experience includes dealmaking at all levels and the shepherding of some of the industry's major acquisitions.

"Joining Warner Music Group is a wonderful opportunity for me," said Johnson. "After a lifetime on the East Coast, I'm very much looking forward to an extended adventure in Los Angeles."

Prior to WMG, Johnson spent nine years as senior veep and general counsel for Sony Music Entertainment. He also held a number of posts at CBS, Sony's precursor, beginning in 1975.
