Acts recently signed to Zinc include Tangletown, the band fronted by Bob Dylan's nephew Seth Zimmerman, which will perform at the upcoming South by Southwest fest in Austin, Texas. Z and his brother David Z co-produced the disc.
Former bandmate Eric Leeds, Prince's key sax man, will also bow a Zinc album.
Z, whose real last name is Rifkin, also manages and produces performance artist Ana Voog.
"Zinc will provide a home for artists where music comes first," Rifkin told Daily Variety, "and where the artists can benefit from my extensive experience in the industry. I know the perspective of a musician, producer and writer, which can be helpful on several levels."
Zinc has several distribution offers on the table and expects to ink a deal shortly.
After 10 years in the Prince camp, Z segued in 1987 to album producing and songwriting and worked on a number of projects both Stateside and abroad.
His resume boasts projects for Boy George, Aswad, Manhattan Transfer and Prince protegees Wendy & Lisa, among many others.
