Helmer Hiller to get DGA Aldrich Award for service

Former Director's Guild prexy to receive achievement nod

"Love Story" director Arthur Hiller will be presented with the Robert B. Aldrich Achievement Award by the Directors Guild of America on March 6.

Hiller is a former president of the DGA and is the guild's representative to the National Film Preservation Board of the Library of Congress.

"Arthur Hiller's many years of service to the Directors Guild should be an inspiration to all DGA members," said DGA president Jack Shea. "He has worked tirelessly on countless guild projects for nearly three decades."

Hiller's credits include "The Babe," "The In-laws," "Silver Streak," "The Man in the Glass Booth," "Man of La Mancha," "Hospital," "The Out of Towners" and "The Americanization of Emily."

The Aldrich Award, named after another former DGA president, is given for extraordinary service to the DGA and its membership. Past recipients include Delbert Mann, Gene Reynolds, George Schaefer, Gilbert Cates, Sheldon Leonard, Robert Wise and Martha Coolidge.

The award will be given to Hiller during the 51st annual DGA awards dinner at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
