Art directors draw prod'n design noms

Lithgow to serve as master of ceremonies

The Society of Motion Picture & Television Art Directors announced nominees Thursday for its annual Excellence in Production Design Awards.

Winners will be named in four categories during the society's awards dinner gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Feb. 27, with John Lithgow as master of ceremonies.

The awards recognize superior achievement by production designers -- as well as art directors and assistant art directors, if applicable -- on film and TV projects during the previous year.

  • Feature nominees are:

    John Myhre, for "Elizabeth"; Jeannine Oppewall, "Pleasantville"; Tom Sanders, "Saving Private Ryan"; Martin Childs, "Shakespeare in Love"; and Eugenio Zanetti, "What Dreams May Come";

  • TV series:

    Corey Kaplan, "The X-Files"; Richard James, "Star Trek Voyager"; Carol Wood, "Seven Days"; Tom Walsh, "Buddy Faro"; and Tom Azzari, "Sports Night";

  • TV movies and miniseries:

    Richard Toyon, "From the Earth to the Moon"; David Bomba, "Gia"; Jerry Wanek, "Houdini"; Hilda Stark, "The Rat Pack"; and Marcia Hinds, "Winchell";

  • Music specials, variety and awards shows:

    Ray Klausen, "26th Annual American Music Awards"; Bob Keene, "40th Annual Grammy Awards"; Roy Christopher, "70th Annual Academy Awards"; Charles Lisanby, "Reflections on Ice: Michelle Kwan Skates to the Music of Disney's 'Mulan' "; and Rene Lagler, "Three Tenors: World Cup '98, Paris."
