Ramis abandons 'Quest'

Helmer taking break after 'Analyze This'

NEW YORK -- Harold Ramis has left the helm of the DreamWorks sci-fi comedy "Galaxy Quest." Ramis recently completed the Warner Bros. comedy "Analyze This," which opens March 5 and stars Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal, and it's believed he wanted to take a break before starting another movie.

"Galaxy Quest," scripted by Robert Gordon from an original story by David Howard, centers on a former TV actor who must assume his space captain persona when he and his fellow cast members are recruited by a group of aliens to save their imperiled race. Mark Johnson is the producer. No new director has been named.

Despite the change, the film is expected to continue development, with production starting by summer. Ramis was unreachable, and DreamWorks did not comment.
