Wilson joins U Interactive

Exec to head development of games based on studio brands

Jim Wilson has been tapped as senior veep and general manager of Universal Interactive Studios.

In the newly created position, Wilson will oversee the worldwide development and licensing of gaming titles and franchises for the interactive games division based on studio-owned brands, including Woody Woodpecker, Universal Studios Monsters, Bruce Lee, and Rocky & Bullwinkle.

The division, which was realigned with Universal's consumer products group last year, already has released four titles based on its Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon franchises for Sony's PlayStation gaming console.

Future releases -- including a "Xena: Warrior Princess" game to be released in the fall and a possible title based on this summer's "The Mummy" -- will be produced through U's internal development arm, Universal Studios Digital Arts, Sony's 989 Studios and licensing deals for PlayStation and PCs.

Wilson was previously veep of marketing for Universal Studios Consumer Products Group, overseeing all brand and marketing strategies and business development for the group.

Prior to joining U, he was director of marketing for Philips Media, head of marketing for Virgin Sound and Vision, and retail marketing manager at the Disney Consumer Products Group.
