Telewest's TV penetration climbed 13.4% to 952,175 homes last year, driven by smaller channel packages and Front Row, the joint venture pay-per-view movie service Telewest has with NTL, another of the three British cablers.
Penetration was up 1.9% to 23.8% within Telewest franchises, and churn -- the amount of customers who take, then cancel, subscriptions -- was down 5% to 29.5%, considerably more than the fractional reductions of previous years.
For its digital platform, Telewest has placed an initial order for 100,000 set-top boxes with electronics manufacturer Pace. The boxes will be leased, not sold, to subscribers.
The as yet unnamed platform will offer about 200 services, including about 60 tiered Front Row PPV channels.
